I stayed at this hotel in March 2009. It was a dirty and worn. Desk staff was very unfriendly when I questioned the room. Oops could no longer speak English. The free 5 minutes of internet provided by the hotel to reconfirm flight reservations didn't work so it cost me $. Room was tiny, dirty, dark and stuffy. Mold in the bathroom, dirty tub on check in, rooms was not cleaned during our intire stay, bed was small and not comfortable. Windows did not open and view was of other rooms. Started to eat at there first night but was warned off by other guests. Torn flooring in the elevator and just run down over all. Didn't seem to have many other guests durning my stay. I would never stay there again.

This is not a 5 star hotel. The room was 2 star at the most. I travel a great deal with my work and stay in many hotels every year. The NH Barbizon seemed like a low end Travel Lodge in the US. Nice lobby but the room was worn, dingy and the bathroom moldy. A 5 star hotel room should at least be clean. You could sand furniture with the toilet tissue. Pieces of the bathroom door were falling off and tub drained poorly . I asked for a non-smoking room with a view and 2 beds. The room smelled smokey and there were cigarette papers and a lighter in the desk. The view was the window of another room 15 feet away. There were 2 twin beds pushed together. No top sheet just a bottom sheet on the beds. There were two windows in the room but only one opened, then only a few inches at the top. Fresh air would have been nice. If I opened my curtains people in the hotel hallway could see into the room. My arrival time was 2 hours before check in, 2am my time. I contacted the hotel and asked for an early check in but was told it was against policy and that I could rent a room for the 2 hours before my check in. I was there 4 days, 3 nights and the room was cleaned once. Well the beds were made and the towels replaced. Floor was not swept. No fridge, just a pay if you remove items mini bar. The hotel did not seem to have many guests during my stay. Front desk staff was cold and unconcerned. Only good points. the hotel is close to Centre Station and the room was quiet.

The hotel staff was friendly, and the room was very nice. Room Service was OK, and they provide an impressive set of toiletries, in case you need them. The hotel location is great, specially if you want to have the train station handy for day trips outside Amsterdam (like we did), and at the same time enjoy the old district, attractions very close by, ,etc. We didn't use them, but the hotel has dinning room, bar, conference rooms, gym, etc. It's nicely decorated, and it gives a great impression. I traveled with a six months old baby, and this hotel was a great choice. I will recommend it, unless you don't feel confortable with having the red light district nearby.

I only had one day (layover) in Amsterdam; so wanted the best location (to explore the city on foot) and comfort (to be refreshed to continue my trip)... I took the reservation agent's, at the airport, advice. He said this hotel was FANTASTIC in comfort, location, etc. I loved this hotel. I took the train direct from the airport to the city center. Suddenly I felt like I was in the middle of Holland... a concentrated area where there is a little of everything. So accessible. The room was lovely and comfortable, the staff was intelligent and hospitable. I would definitely stay at this hotel again, in spite of their corney sounding name.

This was our (wife and I) first trip to Europe. I loved the location of the hotel (Centraal Station & Red Light Dis). The hotel checks us in at 7AM due to our red-eye without a problem.
