We stayed at the Princess Royale for a weekend in January. The hotel is nice and the room was huge. Enter to a sitting area with couch, chair and TV-then a walk through kitchen and bathroom and enter into bedroom with two beds. Easily could sleep 6. Our view was interior balcony so we looked over the pool and through the large window wall to the ocean. Perfect. Not too noisy and lots to watch.. The only thing that I did not like was the smell of the air freshener or something in the lobby and the hotel bathrooms (not in the room). It was a very strong sweet smell tthat could be sickening to some. Don't forget to use the hot tub on the ocean.

I enjoyed our stay. The lobby was clean and the staff was friendly. The pool was great and I could see me children at the pool from my balcony. The maid service was nice. The pull out sofa did not have the best mattress, it was uncomfortable. The food was affordable and good. We enjoyed being directly on the beach. I would stay again.

We have stayed here many times before and were pleased to find updated furnishings in the suite this time. Still lacks in the kitchen utensil area though. Beach bar is great/really pricey though. Our grandson messed up the safe and we had to request assistance from security to fix it and they were very prompt. Don't expect to be able to communicate with all the help staff/several speak little to no english. Overall we had a good experience and will most likely stay here again in the future.

Right on the beach which is what I was looking for. This was my first visit to OC, but probably not my last. Next time, I will probably stay closer to the boardwalk area, not because of the hotel, but just for a change of scenery. The buffet while good was a bit overpriced at $*, but I have come to expect that in a resort area. Everything in OC is overpriced, so come prepared for that. There is a supermarket and shopping within a block or so. If you stay here, request the ocean front suite as the extra cost is worth it. The rooms are not big as far as suites go, but large enough for a family of 4 or 5. The beach is definitely family friendly and full of children. Some of the waves were rather large, so beware if you have little ones.

I booked this hotel in desperation due to very short notice for this trip. It was not easy to find any hotel in OC with availability, but I did find an ocean front suite at the Princess Royale. I am an admittedly very picky traveler when it comes to where I stay, so I was nervous.
While this is not the first class hotel you might expect for the money you pay (which I do think is pretty much standard for an ocean front room in OC), I was pleased enough with it that I can't say I wouldn't return.
My main concern is always that a place is clean, and again, I'm picky. Our room was very clean, not only upon our arrival, but after housekeeping attended to it during our stay, too. The whole place is obviously not new, and some things - like linens and towels - do look somewhat tattered, but they're clean.
The public areas of the hotel were not impressive in cleanliness to me, but I don't totally hold this against them. It would be very hard with that many people and that much water and sand.
The pool area was the only thing that really looked bad to us. The water was a cloudy, unappealing color (sand?). It was full, though, so obviously that doesn't bother everyone. The beach location is so great, though, I can't imagine wanting to be in an indoor pool anyway.
Just a little more TLC to the upkeep of some of the seemingly small details would make a huge difference in this place, but I guess they don't have to do that if they can stay full at the going rate as things are.
