Its a casino oriented hotel

Like all Hotels attached to a casino they are set up to cater to and entice you into the casino. The restaurants and clubs are in the casino. The restaurants are expensive. The steak place is ala carte. $*. for salad. or baked potatoe, $8. for bottled water. Not to mention the steaks are about $* . and thats all you get other than the plate its on. The pool is surrounded by tall buildings. By 3 oclock, in October, the entire pool is shaded. On the positive side, service is good, rooms are spacious and clean. So if you are a gambler type , go for it. If not there are better choices.

We love staying at the Wyndham, visit 3-5 times a year. Great location, just walk out front and catch the city bus (#10) to the Fish Fry (Arawak) or downtown. Plenty of good restaurants nearby. Great staff, enjoy the casino, Angus Grill is wonderful and we love the deli, too. Many rooms have been renovated and the beach view is excellent. Nearby, a little farther west is Cappricio's-- great Italian food and Manny is an excellent host! And we always reserve a night to go to The Blue Lagoon on Paradise Island (not associated with the Atlantis, been there a long time) and after dinner we walk around the marina over to the Atlantis casino-this trip requires a taxi, costs about $ each way. The Fish Fry is a daily trip for us--can't get enough conch salad and fried snapper (Bahamina style) and the best grouper fingers! If you're celebrating a special occassion, don't miss dinner at the Graycliff--and be sure and walk the grounds--I swear you can still see Esther Williams swimming in that pool. If no time for dinner at least enjoy drinks. Atlantis is big and very Disney-like, well worth seeing. It is a lovely property, but I enjoy the Bahamas and it's people and I don't like to feel captive and that has been my experience with staying at the Atlantis. I love Nassau and staying at the Wyndham is like coming home.

Last year a girlfriend and I stayed at the Sheraton, so I was a little familiar with the Wyndham although we only visited the Casino. This year, I came back with my two children (elementary age and a high-schooler) and husband. I would say the Wyndham is the more....ahem....ghetto of the two resorts. A lot more loud music, loud people, etc. The resort only has one pool, so we found ourselves at the Sheraton a lot because the music poolside at the Wyndham was not conducive to relaxing. Don't get me wrong the facility outside is breathtaking, the poolside drinks and eats were very good (although tres expensive). But if you want to relax...this resort is not for you. By the weekend, the music and people got louder and more rowdy. The rooms were NOT impressive at all. It looked like ours was in the midst of a re-do. NO towel racks in the bathroom..or anywhere. There was a space in the credenza/entertainment center for a refrigerator. When we asked about it, they put one in the room...right beside one of the beds instead of inside the credenza! Also, be prepared that your room will not be cleaned until closer to 2 p.m. We did the beach or pool early, then explored after lunch. Every day the maid was just getting to the rooms next door when we came up from the beach at 1 p.m. Avoid the Seaside buffet..breakfast was terrible.

Our room wasn't huge or luxurious, but the ocean view was amazing! If you read the little cards in the room, to have the sheets and towels changed daily you have to leave the card on the bed and not put the towels back on the towel rack. Housekeeping cleaned daily, so I imagine the other guest reviewer didn't read the cards. I hope you don't go to the Bahamas to spend much time in your hotel room anyway. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and you have full use of the Sheraton's pools and beach as well. My only complaint is that the hotel gives day passes to cruise ship passengers, so on one day of our stay the pool was full of drinking 22 year-olds for whom they provided a DJ. Also, Bahamian Independence Day occurred during our stay and on that day the hotel hosted a BBQ, had a live band playing over the pool, and invited anyone who wanted to come, so the pool was REALLY loud and crowded that day. I absolutely would stay at the Wyndham again, but I would plan to be away from the hotel on the day the cruise ship passengers were coming.
