We stayed at the State Plaza Hotel 10/10-10/15. The hotel was everything we expected based on prior reviews and pictures. We checked in quickly and our room was located in the second building (behind the main building on E Street). This was not an issue for us as we could then exit the second building on to F Street and head towards the Metro, etc. The room was clean and stocked with Bath & Body Works shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and soap. The kitchen had a full size refrigerator and a microwave along with silverware, plates, glasses, etc. We had two queen size beds that were very comfortable and each had four very full pillows. We did not have much of a view out our window (side of another building) - but that didn't really matter as we were out on foot to see all the sights. The State Plaza is very close to the Lincoln, Vietnam, and Korean Memorials and the White House. We walked from our hotel to the Washington Monument, WW II memorial, the Smithsonian Musuems and the Capital without any problems. We also walked to Georgetown and Dupont Circle in the evenings for meals. The hotel is very close to all the activity of the George Washington University - we felt safe walking even at 10:30 at night. There were always lots of young people out and security around the campus. There is a CVS pharmacy and liquor store right next door that came in handy. If we go back to DC - we would definitely book here again.

Although the exterior looks small, the rooms are extremely spacious. Our suite featured a large room with 2 Queen beds, FULL kitchen and table, dressing room with vanity, and lovely tiled full bath. The room was immaculate, and the beds very comfortable. It is within walking distance to George Washington University, the METRO and dining. A GREAT FIND!!! All of the personnel were very friendly and accommodating. It is the perfect hotel for travelers who like the feel of and older hotel, but with modern, spacious convenience.

We stayed at the State Plaza for 7 days with 3 teenage kids, and actually had two rooms during our stay. The front desk was wonderful, the cleaning service was impeccable, any maintenance workers that we ran into during our stay were very kind. The hotel is very old (our bathroom looked dated from the 20's or 30's) but everything worked wonderfully and for once, I felt at home in a hotel. The kitchen was nice, but there was not a stove, just a stovetop, and no microwave. We did not have any cooking equipment (pots, pans) so we could not use the stovetop which was dissapointing. We did utilize the CVS next door (very expensive) a few times and ate at Potbellies (2 blocks away) and PitaPit (in the same building as Potbellies), both of which were fairly inexpensive and were on the way back from the Metro Station at GWU. Overall, we had an amazing trip and it was nice knowing that when we got back to our hotel, we would be taken care of. FYI: The only wifi we were able to get was in the lobby so the kids were spending alot of time there.

Second time we stayed here and if I have to work in DC again, we'll stay here again. Great rate for a room with kitchen facilities. The rooms are large and the hotel is in a very convenient location! There is a Safeway nearby n the Watergate and lots of restaurants in the GW area. Rooms are quiet and staff is very polite. The internet didn't always work.

Ok so here is the real review on this hotel. For a great price you can usually get a state room suite that includes a fridge, stove and all your utensils. The rooms are nice in the bedroom but in the kitchen and bathroom it looks like it needs a renovation to get it out of the 70's. However everything is very clean and the housekeeping does a great job. Comfortable beds but low shower pressure. Also if you want a great view your not going to get it with this hotel. But who cares get out and see the town! There are some homeless people around the area but thats everywhere in DC that has a bench or a bus stop. However the neighborhood is nice and we always felt safe walking at night. The location is about five minutes to train station and Lincoln memorial. However if you want prime location and food choices try to stay on the other side of the white house on 7th street. All the museums and attractions are on that side of the town, but you will pay a premium. For food look at Quigleys pharmacy @ 21st and I street and the small mall at 21st and Penn. Ave. Would I stay again? Yes if I couldn't afford something on the other side of town. If this is the best deal for you then go for it!
