This hotel is remodelling their rooms, make sure you ask for one of the new ones, the difference is night and day. Very confortable, elegantly decorated rooms, if you are on executive floor they include internet and breakfast, which is convenient. Location can't be beat, close to Via España, and a couple of minutes from main shopping malls.

The service was excellent their included breakfast was delicious and the hotel location and set up was good. I stayed there with my husband and two young children. The staff was very accomodating even for my picky 4 year old's breakfast requests. I was born in Panama but my husband is American (New Yorker) and he loved it. Since then he is not interested in staying at any other hotels when in Panama. Highly recommend it.

Hotel El Panama is not in the best part of town, at least these days. I imagine that at one time, it was probably the place at which to stay when in Panama City. Inside the confines of the hotel property, it is a very nice hotel. The resaurant is full service and I found the staff attentive. It is showing some signs of age, but it has been refurbished in the not too distant past. My room was clean and in good repair. It reminded me of many hotels in Mexico. I stayed in one of the cheaper rooms facing the pool. It was quiet and I slept well. I do not speak Spanish and it would probably be easier to take care of things if I did. But between my broken Spanish and everyone's broken English, we managed to deal with checking in and checking out.

Customer service in Latin America can be problematic, especially in Panama. But the El Panama sets the bar on atrocious service. In fact, I ended up getting in an argument with them after they made me vacate my room well before checkout principally because they were full. They exhibit a ""we don't care"" attitude. The pool is excellent. The rooms are tired and the hotel has attractive architecture and nice grounds. Good location. I won't be returning anytime soon to the El panama.

El Panama Hotel is a very nice hotel that is conveniently located in the heart of the downtown/financial district. The ammenities and location were great. The one consistent drawback was the front desk service... Long story - short version is they need to be more proactive and attentive. $1500 is not chump change...
