I usually have a high tolerance for discomfort while traveling. I don't expect all the comforts of home. What I do expect is a minimum standard of cleanliness and safety from a hotel while I'm traveling. Rodeway doesn't deliver either. I had reserved a room for 5 nights while I took a marathon continuing education seminar in downtown Columbia. I knew I would be tired at nigth and all I wanted was a clean safe room. My first clue that this might be a challenge for the Rodeway was the cleaning woman blocking the front door in a heavlly stained T-shirt smoking her cigarette with such vigor that one could suspect she was facing a firing squad. The desk clerk/owner bearly looked up from his laptop to had me a room key....which was grimy! The elevator looked like it hadn't seen a paint brush or even a cleaning rag in 20 years. The key didn't fit into to lock and it didn't much matter because all the doors along the exposed walk way looked as if someone had tried to them open. I never could get the door to open but I did look in the dirty window into the room. Too sad and grimy to describe. When I returned to the front desk (the lobby could use a cleaning too or at least a good spray of Frabeeze!) to complain, the desk clerk/owners reply was "what do you expect..this is a Rodeway". Even for a low rate, you should get a clean and safe place to sleep. I've seen better offered at a campground!

I have stayed at the Rodeway twice, the first time when I came to Columbia for the bar exam and the second when I returned for Bridge the Gap. The price and location can't be beat. It is true that the hotel is run down, the elevator is slow, and the carpet stained. However, all I needed was a place to sleep and this certainly fit the bill. The sheets, towels, and bathroom were all perfectly clean. The garage is cramped, but free parking is still a nice bonus.

In my opinion the place was a dump. There were bumbs standing around the place at dusk, the pool area was filthy, and the room was not as nice as the photo portrayed. It did not seem to be a vary safe place. We did not even stay the night. We were not refunded any money when we told the manager the reasons we did not want to stay. This place was a bad experience for us.

Staff was friendly and available. Hotel entrance is on a side street not accessible from the street address. Was last painted 50 years ago and building could do with a complete upgrade. Room was clean but rundown and the shower was laughable. Parking is across the street but there is an air of insecurity. Breakfast is not worth the name.

Very friendly hotel staff. Two block from capitol and downtown. Free high-speed wireless. Needs new carpet, bed, accessories, wall. Just feels dirty. Wear your slippers/flipflops. Nothing fancy here, but it's a bed with cable, internet and covenient location if doing business at the capitol.
