My wife and I stayed at the Ibis in Mainz, Germany for two nights in October 2008. I would rate it a good two star hotel. The room was small and sparsely decorated. However, the hotel was two blocks from the Rhine River and a ten minute walk to the downtown area. The room could use a makeover and was not as clean as other German hotels we stayed in. The desk staff spoke English and were helpful with our request for additional towels (there were only two towels in the bathroom). There is a computer in the lobbly area for free internet access. There is a parking garage in the basement (7.50 euros a day) that is very convenient, via elevator, to the front desk and the rooms, which you must use as there is no on street parking available. While I would look to stay elsewhere, I could stay here again.
