We booked this hotel for a last minute trip to Panama City. Wanted to stay at a resort away from the center of town for a quite luxury report experience away from center of town. The hotel seemed like it needed some updating. Our room with two double bed was OK, but next to the ice machine room so there was constant noise of the ice machine and people coming to get ice at all times of the night. Our bathroom was not very clean. The corners of the bathroom had dirt, shower stall had mildew and dirt buildup in the cracks, the grout in the tiles of the shower was not clean, and the under-rim of the toilet was very dirty. The dining options were minimal. One buffet style restaurant which had very poor quality food, and a fixed dinner menu. The buffet food reminded me of summer camp food, not the quality I expected from a resort that charges over $* a night not including any meals. In general, the staff members were very indifferent, if not slightly rude with an attitude. There were very few thank you's have a nice stay, etc. At check-in, the hotel staff almost scolded my husband for bringing in a lit cigarette into the lobby. A courteous explanation of hotel smoking policy would have been more appropriate. Also the service at the lobby bar was extremely slow more than 30 minutes to get a drink. The only staff member who was super professional, courteous and knowledgeable was the VIP driver we hired to drive us around the city. The pool area was not as clean as I expected. There was bird droppings or some type of animal droppings on the grass around the pool. Not worth the money.

A beautiful setting but not great service. Nothing came on the cheap. Simple activities cost extra. Jungle surroundings but difficult to explore. Beach just walkable, not inviting for swimming. Nasty biting bugs come out heavy at dusk. Restaurant service lacking. Highly priced buffets. Not overly friendly staff. Just didn't measure up to expectation.

30 minutes outside of Panama city an Playa Bonita is an okay conference site. As a luxury hotel the grounds are beautiful and the rooms overlook the harbor as ships line up to enter the canal. The pools, beach, were above average.Conference rooms were good but the sound system was poor.Rooms were clean, toiletries abundant, beds firm with cozy duvets, but chairs and workspace in the room were cramped and uncomfortable. Food was "good, but not great" and quite repetitive. However you pay US PREMIUM rates for food and beverage, mini bar, and you pay extra for Internet, kayaks, etc.
But how well can you rate a hotel when they cheat you on the bill? At luxury rates you expect good customer service and the Playa Bonita fails miserably and it amounts to price gouging. We were quoted a rate at check in and charged a much higher rate ($200 more PER NIGHT) at check out. However, the issue was not the money. The front desk refused to provide copies of the check-in cards which would prove the discrepancy in our favor and refused to locate a manager who would deal with the issue. They embarrassed the conference organizers and the speakers and showed incredibly bad form. Not at all what you expect from the Intercontinental brand. As veteran travelers we have never suffered such paltry treatment as that received at Playa Bonita We left the hotel with a really bad taste and will probably not host our next conference there. Beware the changing room rate and excessive prices if that is important to you. -

05/06/2007This hotel treated you as though you were a close friend, you felt safe and at home. the beach is spectacular, the best resort in panama guranteed.

Finally a real good beach resort in Panama. This resort just opened this year and it's simply spectacular. Great setting, all rooms are ocean view and the service could not be better. It's in a private bay and there is rainforest all around it. Strongly recommend this resort for getaways. Very romantic and far from the other noise and massive beach resorts in Panama.
