I'll start first that the current photo posted is not the exterior of the Latham Hotel. It is your typical NYC older style building with Steps and an awining. The building was under renovation when we stayed and is in dire need. The Good: Location, Price, the ability to leave our luggage behind before check in. That being said, the luggage stays in the lobby, so not very secure. The Bad: Very small room- double bed, small walk area, high boy dresser with TV on top. We were fortunate to have a private bath nut not very clean..hair in tub. Sheets and towels are grey and stained. Bed covering with burn holes. Carpet ""gross.""..wear sandals. Key locks that were not fire-friendly. One elevator that must be operated by hotel staff. The second elevator was for residents of the Latham. I was unable to reach anyone to summon an elevator, so my daughter and I walked down the stairs to get out. Stairwells were clean! So part of the Hotel is residential and is being converted to a full hotel is my understanding. Lobby full of children waiting for the bus. Desk staff somewhat attentive but it depended what was going on. Salsa music blaring at check-in. Noisy hotel. Thin walls/

The pictures on the web site do not accurately represent what you really get. Our room was maybe 8 feet by 10 feet with a double bed. A window air conditioner did not keep out the winter cold air. The room has radiator heat, which you can't control, so the room was always chilly. There was a closet and a broken refrigerator and a lamp that didn't work. The TV was very good, as was the bathroom. But, there is no ice machine. Don't even think about room service. The elevator didn't work one day. One day they turned off the hot water for ""service."" The front desk person was rude to my daughter when she checked in and never once greeted me. There is some kind of disco next door with loud music until about midnight. Now, for the strengths.....we did feel safe and it was only 2 blocks from the nearest subway. So, if you don't have a lot of money, be ready to make that trade off.

i was a little worried about staying in this hotel after having read some not so favorable reviews, it was my very first trip to NYC and wanted to do as much as possible without spending a fortune on a hotel ; but if you are going to new york city to hang out in your hotel room than this is not the place for you, the rooms were very small, yet very clean. the beds are obviously quite cheap, but after running around for 12-14 hrs in the city, they seemed just fine. we were on the 7th floor and never once saw a bed bug, cockroach or mouse. i would definitely recommend it to someone on a tight budget/or first time NYC visitor, you absolutely could not beat the location, it is walking distance or a short subway hop to everything!

There is only one good thing I can say about Latham Hotel - it has a really good location close to all important and famous points of interest. The hotel itself looks dirty. Rooms are pretty small with uncomfortable beds and air-conditioning is really noisy so you can`t have it on while sleeping which results in incredible heat in your room. Besides there`s hot even in corridors, elevators and in lobby. Bathroom is shared but tidy. The worst thing that happened to me was when I found mice in my room!!!!!

I'm not a new comer to the citty so I knew exactly what to expect. Although I had never stayed here before. But I did my homework and it all turned out ok. The hotel is in a great location and you know what they say "LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION" it was right smack dab in the middle of everything. I didn't mind the staff not being up my butt greeting me everyday because I wanted to be able to come and go as a I please and not be botherd. The only thing they messed up was the bed in our room we were supposed to have a king bed but they instead gave us bunk beds luckly it was only me and my boyfriend and we were there to site see so I really had no intention of staying in my room. I didn't bother complaining because they let us check in 3 hours early and we both just slept on the bottom bunk. The noise level was quite never really heard anybody atnight. We just kept our do not disturbe sign on the door when we weren't in our room so the cleaning lady wouldn't go in. The only thing I can't stand reading are people's reviews that have never been here and critizie everything. What do expect from the city that never sleeps and do you think it's gonna smell like roses here what do you think it's gonna smell like when you have like 8 million people cramed into a 20 mile radious and on garbage day there are mountains of garbage. The only thing I can say to those who read this are.... If you want peace and quite take a cruise if you wanna relax go to the beach. I LOVE NYC
